ENVERSED INTERNSHIP

About Enversed

The internship

Enversed is currently operating the largest VR center in Europe, where they create their own VR experiences focused on teamwork, competition and interaction.

For more information, visit their website here.

My first contact with Enversed was during a VR game jam they organized along with ManusVR. When the jam was over, I applied for an internship. Not long after that, I was asked to join the company as an official employee until the internship started (during summer break).

The primary role I fulfilled during both my employment and internship was that of a gameplay programmer (UE4 blueprint / C++). I was mainly responsible for getting essential gameplay systems up and running, as well as implementing multiplayer networking in several projects.

Because I joined Enversed in the period prior to the launch of the VR center, most of the projects I worked on were among the first to be used in the VR center.

What I learned

  • Working in multidisciplinary SCRUM teams in a professsional environment

  • Working with Unreal Engine 4 (both blueprint & C++)

  • Using Python and C++ to establish communications between external devices and Unreal

  • Developing VR experiences for HTC Vive and Oculus Rift

  • Multiplayer networking in Unreal Engine 4

  • Showcasing VR experiences during the Dutch Design Week expo

  • User testing

  • Designing & implementing hostile AI

Snippet of projects I worked on

  • Target Rivals, a 1v1 archery contest

  • A dance of spirits, a singleplayer highscore game

  • TraiNSketch, an interactive train-landscape (issued by the NS for the GLOW event)

  • Rowing simulator, where you would use an actual rowing machine to propel a VR boat along a canyon (eventually discontinued)

  • Taipeindhoven, a multiplayer city-building game designed to demonstrate the possibilities of using VR in the architectural industry.
